What is the Young Vic's relationship to the scheme?
The Young Vic administer the scheme. There is a Steering Group who is responsible for establishing the scheme's guidelines and also selecting the participating theatres. The Young Vic may host a bursary but to do so will go through the same application process as any theatre.
The RTYDS has no formal relationship with the Young Vic’s Directors Program which includes the Genesis Directors Network and Jerwood Assistant Director Scheme.
"For the past forty years or more I have been associated with this unique and invaluable Scheme and for the past twenty I have been privileged to be both its fundraiser and administrator. Throughout all this time I have gained the most enormous pleasure and satisfaction in meeting young theatre directors from all over the country and observing their ultimate progress. To this end a number of them now hold important positions in the theatre, some of them running their own buildings, both in London and in the regions. Could there have been a more satisfying way of spending the early years of my retirement? I very much doubt it."
